Why matching beats a bigger send list
Fundraising is a routing problem before it is a pitch problem. Researchers at Harvard, Stanford, Chicago Booth and UBC surveyed 885 venture capitalists at 681 firms to find out where their deals actually come from. Most arrive through the investor's own network. Very few arrive cold.

How we count
Counts cover active investor records only. Location is free text from mixed sources, so 1,355 distinct spellings are folded into roughly 200 real cities before anything is counted. Investment stages get the same treatment: "early stage" alone arrives in eleven spellings, and counting only the most common one understates the real figure by about a third.
Check size is recorded for 8.7% of investors, so we publish no median check size and never segment on it. A number drawn from that little coverage would look measured without being measured. Public pages show aggregates only — counts and distributions, never investor names or contact details.
